Theater 23 brings “Animal Farm” to the stage and classroom

Good news, theater lovers! The creative dynamos of Theater 23 will be back this October 23-25th with another not-to-be-missed production. Many of you will remember last year’s suspenseful drama, “The Last Flight of the Electra,” with its mysterious aviatrix who might—or might not?—be the long-lost Amelia Earheart. A year later, we’re thrilled to welcome the troupe back for a staged dramatic reading of George Orwells’s classic and timely masterpiece, “Animal Farm.”

As Theater 23’s own description of the show declares, Animal Farm is a fable—with a sting. To make the production more accessible to its younger generation of audience members, the theater company is planning an educational outreach program and offering free tickets to high school students for any of the four performances. (Admission for all other audience members will be on a “Pay What You Can” basis, from $5 to $23 a person.)

Parents, teachers and school administrators can reserve tickets and access free digital curriculum by contacting Michelle Badgley at (810) 845-9256. The complete, ready-to-use curriculum was designed to accompany Theater 23’s production and is aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for ELA, social studies and theater arts. Its author, Suzy Short, has over 20 years of professional curriculum-writing experience and will also be directing October’s show.

Evening performances will be held on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. Matinee shows are scheduled for Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are now available for presale at www.theater23.org.
